RECENT VOTES IN THE LEGISLATURE AND CONGRESS:(Apr 24) Senators Kyl and McCain both voted YES to prevent the National Labor Relations Board from implementing a policy to give unfair advantage to unions in organizing efforts. Both senators were cosponsors of the bill. It was defeated 54-45.
(Apr 19) Congressmen Gosar and Flake both voted YES on HR 9, which would provide a 20% tax reduction to businesses with under 500 employees. It's passage is questionable in the senate, and the president likely will veto it if does get out of the senate. (Apr 16) Senators Kyl and McCain both voted NO in SB 2059, commonly know as the Buffet Rule. It would have imposed a new "millionaire" tax. The bill died do to a failed cloture vote. (Apr 10) Reps. Barton, Crandell, Gowen, and Stevens all voted YES on HB2036. Sens. Allen and Griffin previously voted for the bill, which the governor has signed into law. Upon effect, the law requires informed consent for an abortion, parental permission for a minor, prohibits abortion after 20 weeks, and raises the medical stands for women who do receive an abortion. (Mar 22) Senators Kyl and McCain both voted YES on HR 3606. This bill would ease reporting and regulatory requirements for small businesses trying to raise capital in order to take the company public. Measure passed 73-26 and now goes to the house, which is also expect to pass it. (Mar 22) Congressmen Gosar and Flake both voted YES on HR 5 to eliminate the Independent Payment Advisory Board (IPAB) and cap damages in medical malpractice lawsuits. Measure passed 223-181, bit is not likely to be heard in the senate. (Mar 8) Senators Kyl and McCain both voted YES to approve the Keystone Pipeline. Amendment 1537 had 56 yes votes to 42 no, but fell four votes sort of overcoming a democratic filibuster. (Mar 1) State Senators Allen and Griffin voted YES to allow the voters to eliminate the Independent Redistricting Commission and return that duty to the elected state legislature. Senator Allen sponsored SCR 1035 which passed 21-9 and now goes to the house. (Mar 1) State Representatives Barton, Crandell, Gowen, Judd, and Stevens voted YES to give tax credits to businesses to offset the cost of government regulations, expand the state’s job training incentives, cut capital gains taxes and allow greater tax write-offs for operating losses. HB 2815 passed 39-18 and now goes to the senate. (Feb 27) State Represetnatives Barton, Crandell, Gowen, Judd, and Stevens voted YES on SB 1126 to approve Secretary Bennett's proposal to place gun barrels from the USS Arizona and USS Missouri as a memorial on the grounds of the state capital. Senators Allen and Griffin voted YES on the same measure on Feb. 2. Governor Brewer has signed it into law. (Feb 16) Congressmen Gosar and Flake both voted YES to triple off-shore oil production, authorize the Keystone XL pipeline, and open a small portion of ANWR to oil drilling. HR 3408 passed 237-187 and now goes to the senate. (Feb 8) Representatives Gosar and Flake both voted YES to ban members of congress from using insider information to purchase stocks (SB 2038). Measure passed 417-2. It no goes to a conference committee to reconcile with the senate-passed version. (Feb 2) US Senators Kyl and McCain both voted YES to ban members of congress from using insider information to purchase stocks (SB 2038). Measure passed 96-3. Bill now goes to the House. (Feb 2) US Senators Kyl and McCain both voted YES to ban earmarks (senate vote 8). The measure was defeated 59-40. (Feb 8) US Senators Kyl and McCain both voted NO to amend the Constitution to enact congressional term limits (senate vote 11). The measure was defeated 75-24. (Jan 17) Congressmen Gosar and Flake both voted YES to cancel the US debt limit increase of $1.2 trillion (HJ Res. 98). The measure passed 239-176. It now goes to the senate, where it is expected that Sen. Reid will not allow a vote. (Jan 11) State Senator Allen voted YES allow congressional candidates to gather nominating signatures from both their current district, as well as their new district tentatively created by the IRC (SB 1031).
